My first sock creature

I made it through another pile and so I was allowed to try something new - a little sock creature. I'm quite happy with him although I' d make a few changes next time. So far the girls seem to love it. Grace had him for a bit and now Milly is having a turn.

Tackling the piles

I am finally making a dent in the number of piles. It is really good to be busy and to have some orders, but I have some great ideas for new things which really should go on hold for the moment. Or I really need to make a pact with myself - if I can get through so many things then I can try something new.
I have totally broken down and bought some socks to make sock creatures. I am determined to make something for my girls that they really love, maybe a sock creature will be it.
So here is what I have finished today - two bags which have been cut out forever and can now be found here.

Fabric flower

What to do when you have 56 more piles of things to make and you haven't finished the bag you promised a friend would be done this week? Try to make some fabric flowers. Here's one I'm happy with. Now I just need to make a bag to put it on.

One Pile Down

One pile down about 57 to go. I thought I'd start on the 'pants for the girls pile. They are so easy and you get results quickly. A couple of pairs of corduroy ones and some pyjama pants, or they can be 'lounging around the house pants on a cold rainy afternoon pants' like they were yesterday. And while I was in production line mode an extra pair for my niece.
It is always nice to make something for the girls. They don't care if the sewing is not straight, or it's a bit big, they don't whinge about the colour. This is one thing about two year olds that I love.

Fabric bargains on ebay are hard to come by these days, but I was so glad to get this huge piece of wool blend fabric. Teal and Aqua - one of my favourite colour combinations. Enough for a coat for myself and lots left for little projects.
Time to tackle the next pile

Dolls and Cooking

I think the house is nearly back in order and we even managed some cooking yesterday - Chris' favourite foods - chocolate pudding and Chili con Carne. I was going to take pictures, but everything seemed to be eaten quite quickly.
These four little dolls are finally finished and are heading off to two sets of twin girls.

Embossed Leaves Socks

Another finished pair of socks. I love finishing things not only because now I get to wear them, but I can start something new. Not that having a large number of unfinished objects has ever stopped me from starting something else, but I don't feel guilty at all.
They are the Embossed Leaves Socks from interweave Knits in Koigu. I couldn't seem to get a decent picture of he colour of them and I have lost the band which tells me the colour number.

Finishing the toe on my second sock was all my weekend craft. Mum and Dad came to visit and we went to the Balingup Field Day which was great for the first hour and then the girls went a little feral. It was our 6th wedding anniversary on Saturday so Chris and I managed dinner out by ourselves and yesterday the girls and I went out for a really nice lunch with friends.
So hopefully today I can get started on the sewing that needs to be done. One thing I'd love in the future is a sewing room, that doesn't have to be packed away when visitors come. Things always seem to be misplaced when piles are moved and put back - hours seem to be lost finding things and you just can't sew when you have the urge. So that's a goal for the future.

Little Crochet Baskets

I was trying to clean up the spare/sewing/everything room this morning (not that you can tell - it stills looks like a bomb hit it) and discovered these. I crocheted them a couple of years ago using scraps of quilting fabric and cotton string. I think the pattern came from Simple Crochet. They are now holding bobbins and buttons so at least I know where something is.

A Trip to the Farm

The last time we were at the farm in January it rained. It rained again this week when we arrived and I don't think it had rained in between. I think Dad will probably want us to visit again soon and bring the rain.
The countryside was so dry the whole trip so I am glad that some people had some rain. Not as glad as the girls who spent most of the morning jumping in the puddles in their new gumboots which quickly disappeared as the ground was so dry.

They also loved seeing their cousin, aunt and uncle.
My Uncle Bruce was also over visiting and we had a great walk around the farm.
Now I am back in the sewing room. It is nearly the end of the school holidays so I am making the most of having Chris at home and getting some sewing finished while I can.

A trip to Perth

It has only been a week since my last post and it feels like so much longer, maybe because a trip to Perth with the girls has aged me so much. I felt like I was 100 yesterday when we returned home. They had good moments, but the bad moments were awful. We lasted half an hour shopping with them and we took them to the zoo which started well, but both ended really badly with a lot of people staring at our screaming children.
Before it turned bad I did get to see some animals and get inspiration for new toys. Unfortunately I didn't get to see some Australian animals - the quokkas and numbats weren't being too coperative, but I did see some wombats, penguins, giraffes, elephants and more before it went bad. I've included the nice photos of the girls at the start of the day.

We did get to spend some time with Chris' family while the girls were really pleasant and the girls has a great time. Chris' Mum has been doing some cleaning and sorting and I got to take home some gorgeous old Carlton Ware and some other gorgeous stuff which is really pretty. I really love to have gorgeous stuff like this around will connect the girls in some way to their grandparents and great-grandparents. One of my favourite pieces I have is a small cup and saucer than my great-grandmother received in her Christmas stocking when she was about 10.

Now I think it is time to face the piles of washing and find some floor space in our house.

Felt Monster

I found a piece of felt I made last year. My first ever try at felting and its shows. It is really thick and not that felted.
I thought I'd try to make a little monster out of it. It is not showing up very well in the photo, but the eyes and mouth are embroidered on and there are a few embroidered squiggles. The girls seem to love him despite his myriad of imperfections.

More Felt

I did have plans to make something with my last piece of felt, but instead I had the urge to make some more. I am using wool tops from Treetops and it makes the softest felt ever.
Felting seems to be easier than sewing at the moment as the girls can help. There are no pins on the floor or sharp scissors. The girls like to play with their cars around me and then help roll a few times and then some more play. I do have plans for the felt I just have to bring myself to cut into it.

Bags and Felt

It was a weekend of bags. I finally cut into some more of the vintage fabric stash I have. The back one is for me and the first two are for the shop. Choosing which one to keep was a really tough choice, although I know I have some more fabric so maybe I'll end up with one of each eventually.
I went for a really pleasant bruch yesterday without the girls. You forget how nice it is to eat and how much easier it is to have a conversation without them. Somehow the conversation inspired me to have another go at felting. It was not as difficult as I remembered and quite fun so I think the girls and I might do a bit more of it this week. Hopefully this piece of felt will become something tonight.
